Free Board Feet Calculator Widget
The embedded Board Feet Calculator works out board feet from a board's thickness, width and length (with a quantity and an optional price per board foot for a total cost). It also converts a length of a chosen nominal lumber size (like a 2x6) into its board-foot equivalent, or board feet back into linear feet, and shows the board's actual finished dimensions alongside the lumber-yard board-foot figure. It suits lumber yards, sawmills, woodworking suppliers and DIY building blogs.
One iframe and a single credit line, no sign-up step — no injected ad, no analytics call, no cookie set on your visitor.
Live preview
This snippet is generated straight from this page. If you'd rather step through the width/preview options interactively first, the embed builder does the same thing across all four converters.
Credit line included
Below the iframe, the snippet adds one small line, “Board Feet Calculator by ConstructionConverter”, pointing to the full converter. Leaving it in is the one thing that helps keep this free.
Where the Board Feet Calculator widget fits
- A lumber yard's pricing page, next to per-board-foot rates
- A woodworking or deck-building project guide
- A sawmill or hobby-lumber seller's product listing
How to add it to your site
- Plain HTML: paste the snippet where you want the converter to appear.
- WordPress: add a "Custom HTML" block and paste the snippet in — avoid the "Paragraph" block, it strips iframes.
- Squarespace / Wix / Webflow: add an "Embed" or "Custom Code" / "HTML" element and paste the snippet.
- The second line (
embed.js) is optional — it auto-sizes the frame height. You only need it once per page even with several converters.
Sizing & responsiveness
Set the width to 100% to fill its column, or a fixed pixel value for a sidebar. Height takes care of itself when embed.js is present — the frame grows and shrinks as the converter updates. Skip that script and the frame just holds a fixed 1100px; the tool still works, it just gets a scrollbar on narrow screens if the content runs long.
Questions from site owners
Is this actually free to embed?
Yes — no account, no API key, and no usage cap. Apart from the converter, the embed code adds a single credit line that links back to it, and leaving that line in is the only thing asked.
Does it slow my page down or add tracking?
No. It runs in a single iframe, so it can't block the rest of your page from loading, and it ships no ad or analytics scripts of its own onto your site. The optional resizer script is a few KB and loads asynchronously.
Does it use nominal or actual lumber size?
Board-foot math uses nominal size (the standard lumber-yard convention — a 2x6 is measured as 2 by 6, not its smaller finished size), while actual finished dimensions are shown alongside for reference.
How many lumber sizes does it support?
12 standard nominal sizes, from 1x4 through 2x12, plus 4x4 and 6x6 posts.
Can I set a fixed width instead of responsive?
Yes — choose responsive or a fixed pixel width when you copy the snippet, with height handled automatically.
